2015 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon!

BANNER - 2015 LOVEATHONHi guys! This year I’m participating in the Book Blogger Love-A-Thon, hosted by Alexa Loves Books!

We’re kicking things off with a questionnaire so we can get to know each other better!

QUESTIONNAIRE

1. What’s your name?

Kimmy

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?

Ottawa (Canada). It’s so cold here right now! There’s not much I want to do in an Ottawa winter besides curl up on the couch and read!

3. How did you get into blogging in the first place?

I have always been a big reader, but I didn’t really have a lot of people to talk to about the books I read. My husband is a web designer and back in 2010 (WOW I’ve been doing this for a long time!), I asked him to make me a website so that I had a place to share my bookish thoughts.

4. What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?

I read all sorts of YA and adult fiction, but my favourites are paranormal/supernatural (ESPECIALLY about ghosts or zombies!), historical fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. I’m getting more into contemporary YA, and I do love a good mystery/thriller, especially if it can genuinely surprise me!

5. What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?

I do the occasional discussion post, including some β€˜Why I Love’ posts where I talk about certain things that I love and why I feel the way I do about them. I also do the occasional Waiting on Wednesday and Top Ten Tuesday posts.

It was one of my resolutions this year to write more discussion posts for my blog, so I’ve got to work on that!

6. Best blogging experience so far?

Going to my first BEA in 2014! I was planning to go again this year, but my husband and I are buying our first home and it’s just not in the budget right now. It’s a long trip from Ottawa to NYC! I hope to go again in the future though.

7. Favorite thing about the blogging community?

I just love being able to talk and fangirl about books with people, whether it’s with my blogging friends here in Ottawa, or people on Twitter.

8. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2015!

Oh my gosh, there are so many books that I’m looking forward to! It’s tough to choose just five, so I’ve picked these ones randomly from my TBR:

Survive the Night, Danielle Vega

I have an ARC that I cannot wait to read!! (My WoW post)

You’re Never Weird on the Internet – Almost, Felicia Day

I am a big Felicia Day fan! (My WoW post)

Book #3 in the Legion Series (no title or firm release date yet but I’m hoping it comes out this year!), Kami Garcia

Okay this is my favourite series right now (well, tied with The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater). I need book three! (My review of book one, Unbreakable)

(My review of book two, Unmarked)

The Last Bookaneer, Matthew Pearl

If you love historical fiction, you’ve got to check out his books. I read some of them before I blogged, but I’ve loved them all. (My WoW post)

The Wrath and the Dawn, Renee Ahdieh

I’m so intrigued by this story. (My WoW post)

9. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?

I feel like I haven’t heard much talk from other bloggers about Kami Garcia’s Legion series, which I totally love (obviously!).

But I also think Mindee Arnett’s Arkwell Academy series is underrated (see my reviews of book one, The Nightmare Affair, and book two, The Nightmare Dilemma), along with Cara Lynn Shultz’s The Dark World (my review). Those are all books/series that I enjoyed so much and felt like I didn’t really hear anything about them from other readers/bloggers.

10. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

I love playing video games! I’m a major Nintendo fan and spend a ton of time playing on my 3DS (especially Pokemon) and my Wii U!

I also love painting my nails and watching TV: I like watching baseball (go Blue Jays!), and my favourite TV shows (that are currently airing – otherwise this would be a much longer list) are Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and Bob’s Burgers. I’ve also been loving the Breaking Bad spin-off/prequel, Better Call Saul.

11. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

These days, I’m not a big shopper. I used to love going to the mall and spending money on new clothes, but as I get older, I find that I spend less money on things that aren’t bills or necessities like groceries. I’m super focused on saving money right now, but I do still have a weakness for nail polish!

12. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?

My instinct here is to go with anything upbeat by Mariah Carey or Kylie Minogue, but it could also be Don’t Stop Believing by Journey!

Or if I’m not in a dance-y, pop music mood, it would for sure be something by The Strokes or Idlewild.

13. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.

I’d love to see the books in Kami Garcia’s Legion series turned into a TV show!! And I know that if they made a movie out of Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, I would be in the theatre on opening day

I had so much fun answering these questions! I can’t wait to check out everyone else’s answers!

  1. Every single time I hear Don’t Stop Believing, I can’t help myself from singing along! It’s one of those songs that make me feel SO good when I hear it πŸ™‚ Also – so cool you were at BEA 2014! I hope you get to go again when it’s in Chicago in 2016 πŸ™‚

    Thanks for joining the Love-a-Thon!

I wound up enjoying this book so much that I immediately bought the rest of the books in the series and read them all one right after the other!
