Just One Reader's Opinion!

Week In Review

May 4 – 10

Woah summer has arrived! We kind of skipped spring and have jumped right up to the too-warm-for-me temperatures. And of course our air conditioner died yesterday! We had to go out and buy a new window unit, because even though we’re moving in the fall to a new condo with central air, we could not survive the Ottawa summers in this hot little apartment without an air conditioner. So that kind of sucked.

I know I said in last week’s Week in Review post that I was going to the Ottawa Blogger Meet Up, but I never really got around to recapping it. It was lots of fun, of course, and it was great hearing author Holly Bodger talk about her book, 5 to 1 (and we all got a copy).

We were spoiled with a bunch of great books! My gift bag included:

Silent Alarm, by Jennifer Banash;

All We Have Is Now, by Lisa Schroeder;

The Porcupine of Truth, by Bill Konigsberg;

Vanished, by E.E. Cooper;

Boo, by Neil Smith;

Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between, by Jennifer E. Smith;

I Am Princess X, by Cherie Priest;

The Pocket Wife, by Susan Crawford;

I Want It That Way, by Ann Aguirre;

Powerless, by Tera Lynn Childs and Tracy Deebs;

The Creeping, by Alexandra Sirowy; and

The Dead House, by Dawn Kurtagich.

Phew! That was quite the haul! Huge thanks to the Ottawa bloggers who organized the whole event, and to the publishers.

I also received a couple of e-ARCs from Edelweiss this week:

Pretty Baby, by Mary Kubica; and Stand-Off by Andrew Smith (sequel to Winger! I am so excited about this!!).

And I couldn’t resist buying A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J. Maas (e-book).

I don’t think I finished reading any books this week! Oops!

Currently, I’m still reading Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra, and The Wicked Will Rise (Dorothy Must Die #2) by Danielle Paige. I’m hoping to finish at least one of those today.

On the blog last week, I posted my reviews of The Living and The Summer I Became A Nerd, along with Supernatural Rewatch posts discussing episodes six and seven.

Coming up this week are reviews of Katie Finn’s Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend, and S.E. Green’s Killer Within.

I’m off to try and read today, celebrate Mother’s Day, and celebrate my husband’s birthday! Happy Sunday!

  1. So fun! I wish we had more meetups like that here in Edmonton. We did have a good group of Edmonton book bloggers, but so many don’t blog anymore, which sucks. It was a lot of fun when we’d meet up at bookstores for coffee and a book chat, or have a holiday party together!

    Meanwhile, we keep going from a nice hot day, back to Spring temperatures. I’m not the biggest fan of scorching heat and I’m really not looking forward to actual summer since I’ll be super pregnant then!

    1. We have a great group of Ottawa bloggers and I feel super lucky to have found them! The internet book blogging community is awesome, but I love having ‘IRL’ friends who are as passionate about books and reading as I am.

      We’re back to the cold weather here, but I’m sure it will swing back to uncomfortably warm in the next couple of days. Canada!

    I wound up enjoying this book so much that I immediately bought the rest of the books in the series and read them all one right after the other!
