Just One Reader's Opinion!

Week In Review

November 18 – 24

What a week! There was a lot going on at work, and there was a lot going on in my personal life! Busy busy busy!

On Monday I went with some of my fellow Ottawa bloggers to hear Lauren Oliver speak at one of our library branches! She was so funny. She told us about her path towards becoming a writer, answered some questions, and then read a bit from her upcoming book Panic, which she said she’d only done a few times before. Very cool! She also said she had an adult book coming out in 2014, Rooms, which I’m really looking forward to reading.

After that, she signed people’s books, and I was so excited to get my copy of Before I Fall signed! I love that book and we chatted about ‘mean girl’ books while she signed. She also signed my copy of Delirium. I haven’t read that series yet, but after hearing her talk about what inspired her and where she got the idea for it, I’m excited to read it!

I received some awesome book mail this week! The lovely Ann Stampler sent me an arc of her upcoming book, Afterparty, which I’m so so excited to read. I’m also going to be participating in a giveaway and sharing a link to read the first three chapters, so look for that later this week!

Then I received a copy of Fangirl signed by Rainbow Rowell herself!! I won it as a giveaway on Twitter a while back, and what a fantastic prize! I adored that book and I’m so pleased to own a signed copy!

And then I received my prize from Alyssa of Swept Away By Books, won as part of her blog anniversary and redesign giveaway. The prize was any book from The Book Depository, and after giving it a lot of thought, I chose The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart. I’ve wanted to read it for ages, so I’m looking forward to this one!

Books!I also picked up a couple of books from Chapters earlier in the week, while I was out on a mission to get a mockingjay pin in time to see Catching Fire. I got a hardcover of Brodi Ashton’s Everneath for $5, and a copy of The Distance Between Us by Kasie West, both books I’ve been wanting to read for a while.

On Saturday my husband and I went to see Catching Fire with friends. I was so so excited! I had just reread the book and rewatched the first movie last weekend, and I had only heard good things from other people who had already seen the movie.

We got to the theater, got our popcorn, and after realizing that the only seats left for the 4:15 show were practically in the front row, we exchanged our tickets for the next showing an hour later. We had much better seats that way!!

All in all, I thought the movie was fantastic. I think I’ll end up doing a little review post later on, but as soon as it was over, I wanted to watch it again! Everything was great, and my love for Peeta remains strong! And to top it off, Josh Hutcherson was hosting Saturday Night Live that night! What a great end to the day!

Mockingjay! My husband liked this movie more than the first, and I’ve heard other people say they liked this better too. I’m not sure yet which of the two films I liked best, but I know that I’ll be having a movie marathon and watching them both before the next installment, Mockingjay (part one), is out in theatres next year!

Oh yes, my friend and I proudly wore our mockingjay pins to the theatre! I was really disappointed that my hair wasn’t long enough to properly braid, but I wore my bow and arrow necklace and felt better.

In the middle of all the book and movie excitement, I also picked up two new video games that I pre-0rdered ages ago and have been playing all weekend: Super Mario 3D World for the Nintendo Wii U, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS. They’re both amazing so far and I hope to write a bit of a review for each after I’ve finished them.

I finished reading Poor Little Dead Girls (arc) by Lizzie Friend, and Objects in Mirror by Tudor Robins. Currently I’m reading In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters.

On the blog, I shared my reviews of Sia by Josh Grayson and The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I also shared my thoughts on finding time to read, and a TBR Thursday post on The Friday Society.

Coming up on the blog this week are my reviews of the excellent Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers, and The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise.

Don’t forget – my blog anniversary giveaway is still going on until the end of the month!

Well, I’m off to read and play Nintendo – a perfect end to a great weekend!
