Just One Reader's Opinion!

Quick Lit

April 2025

I don’t always feel like writing a full review for everything. I was inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit posts and decided to do something similar as a way to briefly discuss the books I read in a month but don’t write full reviews for.

April was a good reading month! I finished 7 books and enjoyed all of them! I’ve reviewed one of them on the blog already (A Talent for Murder by Peter Swanson) and here are my thoughts on my other April reads:

The Coldest Case, Tessa Wegert (e-ARC) – 3⭐

This is yet another book I read recently without initially realizing it is part of a series, but I think it was fine as a standalone. What drew me to the story was the setting, in the Thousand Islands on the American side of the border. The cold and isolation of the setting definitely added to the tension of the mystery, and I’d like to check the series out from the beginning.

True Crime Story, Joseph Knox (owned) – 4⭐

This was such an intriguing, page-turning read! I loved the format and felt like I couldn’t read to the end fast enough! If you like a twisty mystery that plays with format, this is a good one. I definitely want to check out more by Joseph Knox.

The Future is Analog: How to Create a More Human World, David Sax (library) – 3⭐

I was initially really excited to read this, but while it was an interesting idea, I don’t think it’s quite what I was looking for in the end. It felt very specific to the author’s life and experience but I’m not sure that it worked in a bigger-picture view, and I really struggled with the arguments the book kept making against remote work.

My Husband, Maud Ventura (library) – 4⭐

This was one of those stories that wass so strange yet compelling, like I wasn’t sure if it was the book for me because it felt so out there, and whether I’d enjoy it or not hinged on whether it stuck the landing.Thankfully it did – the ending helped me reframe what I’d read in a fun way and I wound up enjoying this one!

The Cinnamon Bun Book Store, Laurie Gilmore (owned) – 4⭐

This was such a sweet, cozy read! It got a little steamy but I loved the small town setting. It gave me Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls vibes, and I want to read more in this series for sure!

Mickey7, Edward Ashton (owned) – 4⭐

This was a fun read, although the ending felt like it was more of a setup for the sequel, which I definitely plan to check out, and was a bit unsatisfying in that respect. After a promising opening, the book lost a bit of steam but picked up by the end. I’m also looking forward to checking out the movie adaptation!
