November 2025
I don’t always feel like writing a full review for everything. I was inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit posts and decided to do something similar as a way to briefly discuss the books I read in a month but don’t write full reviews for.
I had a good reading month in November. I finished 10 books, and have reviewed one already: The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Philip Fracassi.
Here are my thoughts on the rest of my November reads:

The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Ominous Omnibus Vol. 3: Fiendish Fables of Devilish Delicacies, Matt Groening et al. (owned) – 4⭐
This was a fun collection that I (mostly) read on Halloween.
The Four Spent the Day Together, Chris Kraus (library) – 2.5⭐
I wanted to enjoy this after reading a glowing review, but I was so uninterested in the characters and the story. I struggled to finish this one and likely should have DNFd.
Adulthood Is a Gift, Sarah Andersen (library) – 4⭐
This was so fun! My favourite of her collections so far.

The Storm, Rachel Hawkins (e-ARC) – 3⭐
This was fine. I thought there were one too many twists in the end, and that the story was repetitive at times and the pacing slow. But I liked the characters, and I’m always interested in a new Rachel Hawkins thriller.
West Heart Kill, Dann McDorman (library) – 3.5⭐
This was a fun, clever read, although I found the ending somewhat unsatisfying. Still, if you love mysteries, I think this is a good read.
The Award, Matthew Pearl (e-ARC) – 3.5⭐
I have read several of Matthew Pearl’s earlier books, and quite enjoyed them. I am accustomed to his books as works of historical fiction, so I was definitely intrigued to see that this new one was a contemporary story. This was full of tension, and almost felt like a dark comedy at times. I enjoyed it!

The Place Where They Buried Your Heart, Christina Henry (library) – 4⭐
This was a really fun, creepy read! I thought the ending was too rushed but otherwise quite enjoyed this.
A Burning, Megha Majumdar (owned) – 3.5⭐
I read this for one of my book clubs. It’s been on my TBR for years so I was pleased to finally get around to reading it! It was not what I expected, in terms of the plot and particularly the ending. I was pulled in right away and moved by the story.
Problematic Summer Romance, Ali Hazelwood (owned) – 2.5⭐
I wanted to love this! Maybe if I’d read Not In Love first I’d have been more invested in anything that was happening, but this took me ages to finish because I was so bored.
