Just One Reader's Opinion!

Quick Lit

December 2025

I don’t always feel like writing a full review for everything. I was inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit posts and decided to do something similar as a way to briefly discuss the books I read in a month but don’t write full reviews for.

I finished 2025 with a good reading month! I finished 10 books in December, which brought my 2025 total books read to 113!

I have already reviewed four of my December reads here on the blog:

I Want To Burn This Place Down: Essays, Maris Kreizman;

Oxford Soju Club, Jinwoo Park;

The Medusa Protocol, Rob Hart; and

With a Vengeance, Riley Sager.

Here are my thoughts on everything else I read in December:

Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret, Benjamin Stevenson (owned) – 4⭐

This was a fun, festive read! I’ve really enjoyed this series, and this Christmas entry was perfect December reading. The mystery was fun and the story was clever.

The Secret Christmas Library, Jenny Colgan (owned) – 3.5⭐

This was such a sweet, cozy, festive read. It took me a few chapters to get into it, but I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day reading it and it was a great choice for my seasonal reading.

The Anthropocene Reviewed: Essays on a Human-Centered Planet, John Green (owned) – 4⭐

This was a really fun read! It’s funny, poignant, thought-provoking, and just plain interesting. John Green is a great writer, and I highlighted so many sentences.

The Intruder, Frieda McFadden (owned) – 3⭐

This was my first Frieda McFadden, and this was a very average thriller for me. It wanted to be twisty but it was predictable, and the writing was nothing special. I’ve read many thrillers and mysteries that were much more entertaining and better written, but for some reason this book has been such a big hit, and one I’ve seen all over my internet bookish spaces. So while it was decent, I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to pick up more by this author.

The Nothing Man, Catherine Ryan Howard (owned) – 4⭐

Over the last couple of years I’ve become a big fan of Catherine Ryan Howard’s books, but somehow I had not yet read this, which is one of her earlier thrillers. I nearly finished this in a single day/night – it was so readable, so tense, and I loved the book-within-the-book. This was a great read!

Cat + Gamer Volume 8, Wataru Nadatani (owned) – 5⭐

This is such a sweet series, and I’m sad that it’s over! I have thoroughly enjoyed every volume, seeing Kozakura learn more and more about cats via the delightful Soboro and Musubi (and her video game knowledge)! I am already looking forward to reading Wataru Nadatani’s next series!
