Non-Bookish 2018 Favourites: Podcasts

via GIPHY

I’ve already talked about my favourite TV shows and music of 2018, and today I’m talking about my favourite podcasts!

I don’t actually listen to all that many podcasts, although I subscribe to a bunch! I always want to listen to everything, but I can’t really listen to and pay attention to something that’s audio-only unless I am really focusing and paying attention to it. I can’t put on a podcast while I’m trying to do something else.

So the only time that I find that I can really listen to a podcast is my commute to and from work, which isn’t all that long. But these are the podcasts that I subscribe to and that I make a point to actually listen to, and that I loved in 2018.

1. Book Riot

This is the first podcast that I started listening to, and it’s my favourite. I love listening to Jeff and Rebecca discuss what’s new, cool, and worth talking about in the world of books and reading.

Jeff and Rebecca have great banter, and the episodes are always interesting.

(Book Riot has a bunch of podcasts, and I subscribe to almost all of them and would recommend them – you can check out the rest of their podcasts here!)

2. Gilmore Guys

I’ve talked about this podcast a lot already this year. I’ve listened to it off and on since it started, but since I started rewatching Gilmore Girls this year, I wanted to start listening to the podcast along with my rewatch. Kevin and Demi crack me up – I have to be careful listening to this podcast in public because it makes me laugh out loud all the time.

Listening to two men talk about Gilmore Girls is funnier and more insightful than I thought it would be! And I really like that one of them (Kevin) has been a fan of the show for years, and the other (Demi) is watching for the first time. It brings a fun dynamic to their discussions about the show, because Kevin knows where the characters end up (for the most part; prior to this podcast, he had not seen season seven), and Demi has been fairly unspoiled for the series.

If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, give this podcast a try!

3. All the Books

This is another Book Riot podcast, and it’s hosted by Liberty and a revolving cast of co-hosts, all of whom are great.

The podcast comes out weekly, discussing some of the new books being released each week. It’s led me to so many books I hadn’t heard of, and Liberty’s enthusiasm for books is awesome.

4. Office Hours with Tim Heidecker

This is Tim Heidecker’s podcast (you can also watch the episodes on Youtube), where he invites people to call in with questions, comments, and complaints. This one always makes me laugh.

5. The Wayward Podcast

I’m not going to lie, I’m still a little devastated that the Supernatural spin-off, Wayward Sisters, didn’t get picked up. I love Jody and Donna, and it would have been amazing for them to have their own show.

But Kim Rhodes and Briana Buckmaster (who play Jody and Donna) decided to start their own podcast, and I know it’s not the same thing as the TV show, but it’s still pretty cool. These women have such a great friendship, and I love listening to them talk about all sorts of topics. It’s like going to group therapy! Briana and Kim are smart, snarky, and very open and honest in this podcast.

I was lucky enough to meet them for a photo op when I went to a Supernatural convention last year, and they are both super nice and cool, and when I watched their panel at the convention, it was clear how genuine their friendship is. So listening to these podcast episodes has been a real treat.

So there you have it! Those were the podcasts that I listened to and enjoyed the most in 2018. What were your favourites?
