Recent Movies (15)

I always feel like I’ve just done one of these posts, but my last one was way back in February!

I have watched a bunch of movies since then, and a large chunk of them were for a movie challenge I saw being discussed on BlueSky called #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days, created by Sarah Stubbs, where you aim to watch 100 new-to-you horror movies between August 1 and October 31. I didn’t get to 100 but I made a valiant effort, and I’ll continue working my way through the movies I put on my list.

So most of the movies on this long list are horror movies, in approximate ordrer watched, and as usual, movies I especially enjoyed will be in bold! (And I have actually logged and rated most of them on my Letterboxd profile)

  1. Sinners – This movie was so good, I wound up seeing it in the movie theatre three times. And I never go to the movie theatre, unless there’s a BTS or Taylor Swift concert movie! I really do think this is worth seeing knowing as little as possible, if you haven’t seen it yet. There were moments where my jaw dropped, and I couldn’t stop thinking about this after I saw it the first time. I can’t say enough good things about the cast, the music, the story, etc.
  2. Dead Mail
  3. Chime
  4. Cure – I would love to see this again, to try and unpack what is happening.
  5. 825 Forest Road
  6. Casino Royale (rewatch)
  7. From Dusk Till Dawn
  8. Abigail
  9. Jurassic Park (rewatch)
  10. The Bob’s Burgers Movie (rewatch)
  11. Deadpool & Wolverine
  12. Other Side of the Box (short)
  13. The Armoire (short)
  14. Portrait of God (short)
  15. Play Me (short)
  16. The Chair (short)
  17. Curve (short)
  18. No One Will Save You
  19. The Simpsons Movie (rewatch)
  20. Best Wishes to All
  21. The Last Cabin
  22. Noroi: The Curse (rewatch) – I appreciated this much more on a rewatch.
  23. Quantum of Solace (rewatch)
  24. Hell House LLC (Director’s Cut) – I guess technically this is a rewatch since I’ve seen this movie a jillion times, but I hadn’t seen the director’s cut before.
  25. Skyfall (rewatch)
  26. Hell House LLC: The Abaddon Hotel (rewatch)
  27. Project Wolf Hunting – definitely recommend for when you just want some brutal, violent, fun action!
  28. Heart Eyes
  29. Monster Island
  30. 28 Years Later28 Days Later is one of my favourite movies, but the sequel is kind of a dud, so I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this. Thankfully I really enjoyed it (loved the ending!) and can’t wait for more!
  31. Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (rewatch) – Surprisingly good, considering the other sequels were nowhere near as good as the original.
  32. Behind the Sightings
  33. Grave Encounters (rewatch)
  34. K-Pop Demon Hunters – Amazing incredible perfection. I saw this a second time, in the movie theatre, and it was glorious.
  35. Friendship
  36. All the President’s Men
  37. Hardboiled – Finally got to see this John Woo classic (on Tubi!), and it was pretty great.
  38. Hell House LLC: Lineage – This was such a bummer, considering how good Carmichael Manor was. Not scary, I missed the found-footage style, and I am not at all interested in the story away from Hell House / the Abbadon.

That was a lot of movies! But the above list does not include the August-October horror movies I watched for the challenge, if you can believe it. Below are the movies I watched for the #100HorrorMoviesIn100Days challenge:

  1. The Shout
  2. Don’t Peek
  3. Drop – This was much more entertaining than I expected!
  4. Final Destination
  5. A Nightmare on Elm Street
  6. Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight – This was so campy and fun, and Billy Zane is great in this.
  7. No Exit
  8. The Boy Behind the Door
  9. Loop Track – This was kind of interesting, and I have to admit it went somewhere I would never have predicted.
  10. The Monkey
  11. Last Radio Call
  12. Alone
  13. Conjuring Tapes
  14. Lowlifes
  15. Black Cab
  16. Salem’s Lot (2024)
  17. The Gravedancers
  18. What Josiah Saw
  19. Day of the Dead
  20. Death Valley
  21. The Blackening
  22. One Missed Call
  23. They Live in the Grey
  24. The Stranger
  25. Sputnik
  26. The Conjuring 2
  27. Y2K
  28. 8 Found Dead
  29. The Void
  30. Green Room
  31. Bring Her Back
  32. Clown In a Cornfield
  33. Weapons
  34. The Twin
  35. Run Sweetheart Run
  36. Trap
  37. Until Dawn
  38. Final Destination Bloodlines
  39. The Ritual
  40. Lizzie Lazarus
  41. Poltergeist (2015)
  42. M3GAN
  43. V/H/S/ Halloween – I really liked this! I thought it was one of the better recent movies in the series. I thought all of the segments were good, but I especially enjoyed the last one, HOME HAUNT.
  44. Exhibit A
  45. Child’s Play
  46. Transmission
  47. Ravenous
  48. Take Shelter
  49. Livescreamers
  50. Heretic – This was fine, but it was fun to see Hugh Grant as a baddie.
  51. 40 Acres – This was a really good survival-horror that gave me Walking Dead vibes even though there are no zombies!
  52. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Kind of a cheat I guess since I have technically seen it before, but not in at least 20 years. I really enjoyed watching this, and it surprised me because it’s actually not as bloody or gory as I thought I remembered!
  53. Invoking Yell

That really was a lot of movies! And even though I watch horror year-round, now that Halloween has passed, my heart turns towards Christmas! So while I have some new and upcoming horror movies I’m really looking forward to (Obsession; Night Patrol; This Is Not a Test; Send Help; Shelby Oaks; All the Devils Are Here; Just Breathe; Keeper), I am also starting to plan which of my holiday favourites to watch first!
