Once again, it’s been a little while since my last movies post! So I thought I would share a little update on what I’ve watched these last few months, from Halloween until now. It’s a lot of horror movies, some Christmas movies, and some action movies (my first genre love).
As usual, I’m tracking and rating the movies I watch on my Letterboxd account, and the ones I particularly enjoyed are in bold:
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
The Fall Guy – This was so much fun! Watching this reminded me that I love action movies as much as (pehaps more than) horror movies, and I decided to rewatch some favourites!
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (rewatch) – I really enjoy these movies, and after seeing this one, decided to rewatch the series!
Dagr
Deadware
Friday the 13th Part 2 – I spent a lot of time in October working my way through most of this series for the first time.
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
V/H/S Beyond
MaXXXine
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
Dark Windows
Spirit Halloween: The Movie
Mission: Impossible (rewatch) – This is such a sleek movie compared to what the series has turned into, it was kind of a shock to see this one again after so many years.
Mission: Impossible II (rewatch) – I feel like I enjoy this movie a lot more than most, but Tom’s hair and Thandiwe Newton look great, John Woo is doing his thing, and I love the ridiculous motorcycle fight at the end.
Mission: Impossible III (rewatch)
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (rewatch)- This is the one that, for me, takes the series to another level. I still had so much fun watching this, even though I’ve seen it probably more than any other in the series.
Police Story – Watching some good action movies reminded me that I wanted to check out some old Jackie Chan movies, and I managed to find this free on Youtube. What a revelation! This movie is THE Jackie Chan movie for me, and has skyrocketed towards the top of my all-time favourite action movies. I’ve got to get a Blu Ray version for the inevitable future repeat viewings. The action and the stunts are mindboggling, and what surprised me the most was how funny this movie was! I love this movie. And if you like action movies and haven’t seen it, you absolutely should correct that!
Tango and Cash – I detoured from Jackie Chan to this 80s action movie that pays clear homage (or straight up rips off) Police Story in its very first scene! This was 80s Hollywood fun.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (rewatch)
Mission: Impossible – Fallout (rewatch)
Hot Frosty – This was a lot more fun than I expected!
Carry-On – This was ridiculous but not in a fun way. I’m not sure what people loved so much about this one that I’m not seeing.
Muppet Christmas Carol (annual rewatch) – Nothing makes me happier at Christmas than watching this and belting out the opening song while my Christmas tree twinkles beside me.
Die Hard (annual rewatch) – This is still the ultimate action movie for me!
Wheels on Meals – I went back to my Jackie Chan journey and was really excited to see the full movie, having only seen clips here and there over the years. This was silly and fun and had an exhilarating final battle!
Rush Hour (rewatch) – This is one I remembered watching so many times when I was young, so I was curious if I’d still like it. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have great chemistry but it felt far less action-packed than I remembered.
Rush Hour 2 (rewatch)
Rumble in the Bronx – This was just ok for me overall but had a couple of notable standout scenes. The parking garage chase was tense and relentless.
That’s what I’ve been watching lately! As for the future, there are some horror movies on my radar that I’m planning to watch (Heart Eyes, The Monkey), as well as the new Bong Joon Ho movie (Mickey 17), and I want to get my hands on John Woo’s The Killer and Hard Boiled and finally watch them!
