This is the start of a new feature! I got the idea after I was sorting and reorganizing my bookshelf and the dust jacket slipped off one of my books, revealing a beautiful hard cover underneath. I started taking the dust jackets off my other hard covers, checking for any imprints or graphics underneath that I’d never noticed. I wanted to share my love of the hidden treasure under the dust jackets!
This week I’m featuring In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters. Here is the book with the dust jacket, and the hard cover underneath:
(My review of In the Shadow of Blackbirds)
I love the ghostly vibe from the dust jacket. It’s a haunting photograph, but the image on the hard cover is really beautiful. I love the way the bird is framed, like a photograph (photography is an important element of the story), and the bird imagery is also important to the story. I love the way these two aspects are combined on the hard cover.
What do you guys think? Is this hardcover a good fit for the story?
