I love reading essays and interesting articles and trying to share them with other people who I think might find them interesting! I decided to make a little blog post to collect some of them in one place!
Confronting the CEO of the AI Company that Impersonated Me by Nilay Patel – “How much do you think you should pay me to use my name?”
This is an interview transcript that I read, and I really appreciated someone continuing to ask direct questions and push back with a tech CEO.
The World Baseball Classic, Team USA, and the War Problem by Joshua Diemert – “For all the goodwill this tournament brought the game of baseball, Team USA sure got none of it on ’em.”
Very interesting look at Team USA in the WBC and its military / warfare approach to sport.
Have a Fucking Website by Merritt K. – “You don’t own shit that you put on social media platforms.”
This is probably why I still maintain this website, even though I don’t use it as often as I once did, after more than 10 years! Having a Facebook page or Instagram account or some other form of social media is not a substitute for your own website that you can control and own and be in charge of!
A More Perfect Union by Tell the Bees – “These stories serve as warnings. I say this as a man, reporting from behind enemy lines: there are many, many stories of women devoting themselves to their partners only to end up with nothing, their identities subsumed under the umbrella of marriage.”
I am a big fan of Lindy West’s writing and podcast with her BFF Meagan Hatcher-Mays, and so of course I have her newest book, Adult Braces, on my reading table ready for me to pick up…but I have been taken in by The Discourse before even starting the book. This fantastic piece by Tell the Bees discusses another book on my TBR, Strangers by Belle Burden, as well as the TV show Love Story, and “the dark side of what can happen when a woman loses herself completely in a marriage”.
Explain It Like I’m 5: Why Is Everyone on Speakerphone in Public? by Nate Anderson – “Your phone still functions when held to your ear, people!”
As my family well knows, I do not enjoy speakerphone, especially when someone is using it out in a public space!
And on a lighter note:
How To Guide for Annotating Books Like a Pro by The Diary of a Reader
I’ve read a couple of books recently that inspired me to dip a toe into the water of annotating my books, and I came across this post and felt like it was just what I needed to get me started.
Have you read anything interesting lately?
