I don’t always feel like writing a full review for everything. I was inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit posts and decided to do something similar as a way to briefly discuss the books I read in a month but don’t write full reviews for.
It’s August and I’m just now getting around to sharing my June Quick Lit…oops!
I read ten books in June, one of which was a re-read, and reviewed three of them here already:
Yesteryear, Caro Claire Burke;
Dissection of a Murder, Jo Murray; and
Woman Down, Colleen Hoover.
I re-read Prosper’s Demon by K.J. Parker and enjoyed it just as much on a second read.
Here are my thoughts on the rest of my June reads:
Strange Buildings, Uketsu, Jim Rion transl. (purchased) – 3⭐
This was another neat, interesting read by Uketsu. I appreciated the way the stories were connected in the end, and had fun trying to figure out the connections myself before all was revealed in the end.
Hopeless Necromantic, Shiloh Briar (e-ARC) – 3⭐
I liked this. The romance was sweet and I was really interested in the magic system, although I wanted to know more about it than I got here. I’ll likely be reading the sequel.
Making History, KJ Parker (purchased) – 3⭐
I thought the premise sounded so fun, but I didn’t love this. I didn’t dislike it either, I just felt neutral. It was fine, not good or bad, and sometime interesting, but also kind of boring at times.
Gods & Comics, Kat Cho (e-ARC) – 3⭐
This was a charming YA story, and I liked the idea of Grace’s webcomic character coming to life. It felt more towards the younger side of YA, but was a sweet, entertaining read.
This Story Might Save Your Life, Tiffany Crum (purchased) – 4⭐
I really enjoyed this! I was invested in Benny and Joy’s story, and while I would call it more of a character driven story than an outright mystery, I was definitely eager to find out what happened.
Kin, Tayari Jones (purchased) – 4⭐
This was a book club pick, and definitely a heavier, more character-driven story than I usually pick up. This was beautifully written and I need to read more by Tayari Jones!
