January 2025
I donβt always feel like writing a full review for everything. I was inspired byΒ Modern Mrs. Darcyβs Quick LitΒ posts and decided to do something similar as a way to briefly discuss the books I read in a month but donβt write full reviews for.
My January 2025 reading started off well! I read 12 books in January, plus one DNF. I’ve reviewed a bunch of my January reads here already:
The Secret Hours, Mick Herron;
It Had To Be You, Eliza Jane Brazier;
Gin & Daggers, Donald Bain;
Sucker Punch: Essays, Scaachi Koul; and
Dungeon Crawler Carl, Matt Dinniman.
The DNF was an e-ARC of Love on Paper by Danielle Parker, which I really tried to get into, but neither the romance nor the mystery element held my attention.
Here are my thoughts on the rest of my January reads:
Cat + Gamer, Volume 4 and Cat + Gamer, Volume 5, Wataru Nadatani (purchased) β 5β
These two volumes show Riko bringing a second cat into her home, and it was so much fun to see how she and Musubi adjusted to this change! I love this series so much that I’m putting off reading the next volume, which is the last one on my shelf until I get my hands on the next one.
The Last Session, Julia Bartz (e-ARC) – 2β
I am so sad that I didn’t enjoy this, because I loved her book The Writing Retreat. But this felt like such a convoluted story and I just could not buy into any of it, unfortunately.
Bibliostyle: How We Live at Home with Books, Nina Freudenberger (purchased) – 4β
This was full of beautiful bookish pictures and was an interesting read. If you’re looking for a coffee table book for a book lover in your life, you can’t go wrong with this one!
Midnight is the Darkest Hour, Ashley Winstead (purchased) – 2.5 β
This is another that I wanted to enjoy, after really enjoying her previous book, but didn’t.
The God of the Woods, Liz Moore (purchased) – 4β
This was a really slow start for me but once I got pulled into it, I couldn’t put it down!
