The Secret Hours

The Secret Hours is a dazzling entry point into Mick Herron’s body of work, a standalone spy thriller that is at once unnerving, poignant, and laugh-out-loud funny. It is also the breathtaking secret history that Slough House fans have been waiting for.

This was a much different change of pace from the Slow Horses series, and is a standalone novel that nonetheless features Jackson Lamb, Diana Taverner, and others I won’t name for spoiler reasons.

It shed light on Lamb’s past, which was its key hook for me, but was a good read in its own right, although I find it really slow in the beginning and struggled to get invested for a bit.

Having read Standing by the Wall before I picked this up, though, I enjoyed seeing the connections between that novella and this full length novel.
