Just One Reader's Opinion!

Quick Lit

March 2025

I don’t always feel like writing a full review for everything. I was inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit posts and decided to do something similar as a way to briefly discuss the books I read in a month but don’t write full reviews for.

I had a really good reading month in March! I read 13 books, and have already reviewed a few of them here on the blog:

Killing Floor, Lee Child;

Worth Dying For, Lee Child;

Love at First Book, Jenn McKinlay;

The Quiet Tenant, Clemence Michallon; and

A Wanted Man, Lee Child.

Here are my thoughts on the rest of my March reads!

Cat + Gamer Volume 6, Wataru Nadatani (purchased) – 5⭐

This series continues to be the cutest!

61 Hours, Lee Child (library) – 3.5⭐

I loved the setting and the countdown. While the ‘who’ was pretty clear to me from the beginning, I enjoyed seeing Reacher once again get mixed up in a small town’s troubles.

Ghost Apples, Katharine Coles (e-ARC) – 4⭐

This was a book of poetry that was just right for spring reading!

Only Lovers in the Building, Nadine Gonzalez (e-ARC) – 4⭐

This was such a sweet, fun read! It’s a great summer romance book, and was cute and funny. Full review to come closer to its release date in July.

The Science of Reading: Information, Media, and Mind in Modern America, Adrian Johns (purchased) – 4⭐

Parts of this definitely went over my head but what I enjoyed the most was the ‘how’ of reading: how the brain reads, how people learn to read, how and why some people read faster than others and how that’s been measured. What an informative book!

The Most, Jessica Anthony (library) – 3⭐

This was fine. It was a quick read, and I really wanted to enjoy it, since it was a short, tense story that has an interesting structure and is clearly building towards something, but it was just ok for me.

Never Go Back, Lee Child (library) – 3⭐

This was just an ok Reacher book for me. There was an awful lot going on, and yet somehow aspects of this story or the narration felt repetitive. I initially liked the set up, with Reacher in trouble for something from his past, but I had to suspend my disbelief an awful lot to try and enjoy the way he got himself out of so much trouble. I think this really solidified for me that I like Reacher best when he gets mixed up in someone else’s mess in a small town in the middle of nowhere.

Marble Hall Murders, Anthony Horowitz (e-ARC) – 4⭐

This is another fantastic entry in the Susan Ryeland series, with a novel within a novel! Full review to come closer to the release date in May.
