There are so many books coming out in 2014 that sound amazing! I couldn’t narrow down my list into a top ten, so I’m doing a three-part list, ten books each (yes, there are 30 books coming out next year that I’m dying to get my hands on. Probably more than 30, if I’m honest!).
All release dates are courtesy of Goodreads, and I’m listing the books by release date.
I have ARCS of some of these, have pre-ordered others already, and as for the rest, I’m sure I’ll be plunking down my money for them as soon as I can!
You can check out my first part here.
11. Dear Killer by Katherine Ewell (April 1)
Rule OneβNothing is right, nothing is wrong.
Rule TwoβBe careful.
Rule ThreeβFight using your legs whenever possible, because theyβre the strongest part of your body. Your arms are the weakest.
Rule FourβHit to kill. The first blow should be the last, if at all possible.
Rule FiveβThe letters are the law.Kit takes her role as Londonβs notorious βPerfect Killerβ seriously. The letters and cash that come to her via a secret mailbox are not a game; choosing who to kill is not an impulse decision. Every letter she receives begins with βDear Killer,β and every time Kit murders, she leaves a letter with the dead body. Her moral nihilism and thus her murders are a way of lifeβthe only way of life she has ever known.
But when a letter appears in the mailbox that will have the power to topple Kitβs convictions as perfectly as she commits her murders, she must make a decision: follow the only rules she has ever known, or challenge Rule One, and go from there.
Katherine Ewellβs Dear Killer is a sinister psychological thriller that explores the thin line between good and evil, and the messiness of that inevitable moment when life contradicts everything you believe.
That is a very cool cover, and this book sounds so great. I’ve wanted to read this since I first heard about it! And the author wrote the book when she was only 18!
12. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige (April 1)
I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornadoβtaking you with itβyou have no choice but to go along, you know?Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still the yellow brick road, thoughβbut even that’s crumbling.
What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.My name is Amy Gummβand I’m the other girl from Kansas.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I’ve been trained to fight.
And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart.
Steal the Scarecrow’s brain.
Take the Lion’s courage.
Then and only thenβDorothy must die!
Every blogger I know is eager to read this book! And what a fascinating premise – I love when books put a unique twist on something familiar, and I’m very curious to see how this one turns out.
13. Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins (April 8)
Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper’s destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.
Just when life can’t get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she’s charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper’s least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him–and discovers that David’s own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.
With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y’all beg for more.
Yes – magic powers, Southern belles, and romance? This sounds awesome!
14. The Here and Now by Ann Brashares (April 8)
Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.
Thrilling, exhilarating, haunting, and heartbreaking,Β The Here and NowΒ is a twenty-first-century take on an impossible romance. Ann Brasharesβ first novel for teens since The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is about aΒ girl from the future who might be able to saveΒ the worldΒ . . . if she lets go of the one thing sheβs found to hold on to.
MeetΒ seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didnβt come from a different country. She came from a different timeβa future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.
Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where theyβre from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as sheβs told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth. But everything changes when she falls for Ethan Jarves.
The triangles on the cover remind me of the cover of The Secret Diamond Sisters. This is definitely another eye-catching cover, and I love it. Oh how I love time travel stories, and this one sounds so good. I can’t wait to read it!
15. Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman (April 22)
In 1930s Munich, danger lurks behind dark corners, and secrets are buried deep within the city. But Gretchen MΓΌller, who grew up in the National Socialist Party under the wing of her “uncle” Dolf, has been shielded from that side of society ever since her father traded his life for Dolf’s, and Gretchen is his favorite, his pet.
Uncle Dolf is none other than Adolf Hitler.
And Gretchen follows his every command.
Until she meets a fearless and handsome young Jewish reporter named Daniel Cohen. Gretchen should despise Daniel, yet she can’t stop herself from listening to his story: that her father, the adored Nazi martyr, was actually murdered by an unknown comrade. She also can’t help the fierce attraction brewing between them, despite everything she’s been taught to believe about Jews.
As Gretchen investigates the very people she’s always considered friends, she must decide where her loyalties lie. Will she choose the safety of her former life as a Nazi darling, or will she dare to dig up the truthβeven if it could get her and Daniel killed?
From debut author Anne Blankman comes this harrowing and evocative story about an ordinary girl faced with the extraordinary decision to give up everything she’s ever believed . . . and to trust her own heart instead.
This is another book that I know a bunch of other bloggers are excited about! This sounds like it will be a heartbreaking read, but I’m looking forward to it.
16. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han (April 22)
To All the Boys Iβve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.
I don’t read a lot of contemporary fiction, but this is one that has had me excited ever since I heard about it many months ago. This is the kind of premise that has me full of anxiety just thinking about what if it had happened to me, but I can’t wait to see how a fictional character handles it!

Now she needs to use her unique talents to find the true killerβs identity before sheβor someone she lovesβbecomes the next victim…
The premise reminds me of Barry Lyga’s I Hunt Killers and Game, and I really love those books, so I can’t wait to read this!

Enigmatic, dangerous, and handsome, Jas pulls Wendy in even as she’s falling hard for Pete.
