February 2025
I don’t always feel like writing a full review for everything. I was inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit posts and decided to do something similar as a way to briefly discuss the books I read in a month but don’t write full reviews for.
After a strong start in January, my February reading really slowed down (mostly because I spent a lot of time playing Nintendo and catching up on TV shows). I only managed to read four books last month:
Carl’s Doomsday Scenario, Matt Dinniman (purchased) – 3.5⭐
I had to start reading this as soon as I finished the first book in the series! This was a fun read but felt like I had to drag myself through it at times to get to the more interesting, exciting stuff. But I’m definitely obsessed with Princess Donut and will be carrying on with the series!
I Might Be In Trouble, Daniel Aleman (purchased) – 3.5⭐
I liked this and right up until the end was thinking it was a solid four star read, but I’m still turning that ending over in my mind and not sure that I liked it.
Love Letters to a Serial Killer, Tasha Coryell (purchased) – 3⭐
This was a fun if ultimately predictable read, with a main character that will probably have you wanting to yell at her throughout the book but I was invested in how it ended. I think it did a good job portraying the main character’s attraction to true crime but I came away wanting more from the book than it gave me in that respect.
The First Ladies, Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray (purchased) – 3⭐
This was an interesting read: it’s historical fiction, about Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune and their friendship, and their work on civil rights. As a non-American, a lot of what I read was information that I didn’t know, and I liked learning about these women and all they accomplished. But it felt like it was lacking more of an emotional depth for me.
