It’s been a little while since my last movies post! I wasn’t watching much for a while, but I’ve seen some good ones this summer that I wanted to mention! As usual, I’m tracking and rating the movies I watch on my Letterboxd account, and the ones I particularly enjoyed are in bold:
- Five Nights at Freddy’s (this was not all that interesting, and I think Willy’s Wonderland is a much more fun version of this movie)
- Landlocked (this was a slow, quiet, interesting movie)
- Barbie (I so wanted to love this but it was just fine. I did love Ken’s big musical number though)
- Chest (forgettable)
- You’ll Never Find Me (don’t bother)
- In The Mouth of Madness (this had a couple of excellent moments, but overall was not very interesting or scary. It had a great premise but was kind of tedious to watch)
- Leaving D.C. (this was pretty good for a low budget found-footage movie)
- Late Night With the Devil (I loved the look and style of this, loved the story, and it had some great acting. I will definitely be rewatching this one)
- Willow Creek (wow after I’d heard this hyped up so much, particularly for one scene near the end, I thought this was so run of the mill and not scary)
- The Inkeepers (boring)
- Turn Every Page – The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb (a rare non-horror film! If you like reading, this is recommended viewing! I’ve already watched this two or three times and it’s interesting every single time)
- Banned From Broadcast: The Movie – Saiko! The Large Family (if you’re looking for something a little different in your horror movie viewing, give this a go! It was pretty interesting and after doing some reading about it, I rewatched it and picked up on things I missed the first time around that made it even more intriguing)
- Silent Hill (this was so boring, it took me two separate attempts to watch it through to the end)
- Chad Gets The Axe (this was decent! Deadstream is a better version of this kind of story, but I think this was still a fun watch)
- Horror In the High Desert (rewatch – I decided to rewatch in anticipation of the third movie being released, hopefully soon in Canada. I still quite like this)
- Unknown Visitor (this was a good idea but very poorly carried out)
- The Boogeyman (this was nothing special)
- Longlegs (I was so so excited to see this! I don’t think it’s very scary, but it looks great and has some unsettling moments. Nicolas Cage is so fun in this role)
- The Raid (rewatch – another non-horror movie! This is one of my favourite action movies)
- John Wick: Chapter 4 (I love the John Wick movies! This one had such striking scenery and lighting)
- Oddity (I loved this. As with the director’s Caveat, I thought this created such a fantastically tense and unsettling atmosphere, with some well-timed jump scares. I am already looking forward to rewatching this!)
- Horror In the High Desert 2: Minerva (rewatch – I actually think I liked this better on a rewatch than the first time around)
- In A Violent Nature (I think the idea of this movie was much more interesting than the execution)
I’m really looking forward to watching more spooky movies for fall and Halloween! My favourite time of year is approaching!
