Just One Reader's Opinion!

Week In Review

April 29 – May 5

Suddenly it’s summer! I’ve been loading on sunscreen and wearing shorts and tank tops all week, and it feels great! Finally a weekend where I can sit out on the balcony and read!

Mr. Pingwing has been in Toronto all weekend – he went with friends to see a Toronto Blue Jays game (they lost, big time). Despite the score, he had fun, and I’m looking forward to next month when he and I are going to see a game together.

Being on my own all weekend has been pretty fun: I read a few books, wrote some review, ate what I wanted, drank all the coffee, etc. BUT I hate being alone in the house overnight. Somehow I just feel more vulnerable and every little noise inside or outside seems to wake me up. Fortunately I survived the weekend!

This week I posted my reviews of Shards & Ashes, a dystopian short-story collection, and Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne.

I also participated in Top Ten Tuesday, listing the top ten words/topics that make me pick up a book, and Waiting on Wednesday, where I am looking forward to the next book in the Pretty Little Liars series!

I went to my second YA book club meeting, and had so much fun chatting about The Raven Boys! I loved the book even more on my second read, and I can’t wait until the sequel is out this fall! I’m really happy to be a part of a fun, chatty book club (that serves cookies!). It’s something I’ve wanted to be a part of for years – it’s sort of how this blog got started, because I didn’t have anything like a book club where I felt I could share my love (or frustration) of the books I was reading – and so I’m super thankful to Ciara for organizing it, and to Chapters for hosting us!

I’ve got reviews lined up through early June at this point, so coming up in the next week are my reviews of Ten by Gretchen McNeil, and The Unbearable Book Club for Unsinkable Girls by Julie Schumacher.

I also finished reading a bunch of books this week and am working on those reviews: The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson; Game by Barry Lyga; Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout; and 17 & Gone by Nova Ren Suma. Phew!

My current read is Robin Benway’s Also Known As. I loved Audrey, Wait! so I’m hoping I enjoy this book just as much!

Well, I’m off to spend the rest of the day reading while I wait for Mr. Pingwing to get home. Happy weekend!

I wound up enjoying this book so much that I immediately bought the rest of the books in the series and read them all one right after the other!
