December 17 – 23
Happy Christmas Eve Eve! I’m on vacation from work, and even though I spent my first two days off work doing a zillion errands and appointments, I’m finally starting to feel like I’m really on vacation. I want to read a ton of books!
I’ve got a big list of the books I want to try to read before I have to go back to work, and I’m only two books away from meeting my Goodreads goal of 100 books for the year. I think this is the closest I’ve come to not meeting the goal since I started tracking my reading on Goodreads, but now that I’m on vacation I know that I’ll get there, so I’m not worried.
On Friday, my husband and I watched Netflix’s adaptation of Josh Malerman’s Bird Box. I loved the book when I read it a few years ago, and I was very excited to see the movie. I thought it was pretty good, and Sandra Bullock was excellent in it. Even though I knew what was coming, the movie still had some good creepy moments.
I’ve also been listening to a bunch of Bic Runga lately, especially her album Belle. I’m obsessed with the song Music and Light right now.
And of course I’m super excited for Christmas! When I don’t have Bic Runga on, I have Christmas music playing!

Penguin Random House Canada sent me this ARC of Peter Bognanni’s This Book Is Not Yet Rated – thank you!
I also bought Women Talking by Miriam Toews when it was on sale for Kobo. I’m very intrigued by this one!
Books read:
I finished three books this past week, which surprises me since I felt like I hadn’t done much reading at all! But I read:
Not Even Bones, Rebecca Schaeffer;
Whiskey When We’re Dry, John Larison (LOVED this. Review coming tomorrow); and
Dreadnought, April Daniels.
Current reads:
I am reading She Rides Shotgun by Jordan Harper, which I borrowed from the library. I’m about 20% in right now, but I’m liking it.
Reviews:
I posted my sister’s review of Steamed Open by Barbara Ross, and my review of Mary Amato’s Open Mic Night at Westminster Cemetery. I also wrote about my favourite albums that I listened to in 2018.
I’m going to do some more reading and some final gift wrapping. I’ve got some reviews and posts scheduled for this week, but I will probably not be online too much until after Christmas Day. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
