Week In Review

July 21 – 27

Wow another week gone! Seriously, this summer is flying by. I don’t totally mind, because autumn is my favourite season, a few books and video games I’m looking forward to will be coming out, and it brings me that much closer to Christmas, but sometimes I wish there were a few more hours in the day so I could read more.

My husband took over my Minecraft and has been playing a lot of it! It’s been really fun to watch him figure the game out and then start building things and getting into redstone and making rails. I love that game.

The Toronto Blue Jays finally snapped a 17 game losing streak in Yankee Stadium on Saturday! Husband and I were so excited. They’re climbing back up the standings and I’ve been proudly wearing my assorted Blue Jays t-shirts.

On Saturday I went out for dinner for my BFF’s birthday and as a gift I gave her Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, one of my favourite series. I hope she likes it too!

Many books were acquired this week! I got paperbacks of two other favourite series, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and Unbreakable by Kami Garcia.

I also bought The Secret History by Donna Tartt, which has been on my TBR for YEARS, and the e-books of Firecracker by David Iserson and Endless by Kate Brian (Shadowlands #3).

I finished two books this week: Behind the Scenes (ARC) by Dahlia Adler and Dangerous Girls (ARC) by Abigail Haas.

I decided to DNF Divided by Elsie Chapman. I didn’t love the first book, but I was curious about the sequel. Unfortunately, it couldn’t hold my interest and I gave up after 100+ pages. I’m loving that I can now DNF books so easily. I don’t feel guilty like I thought I would. I feel free! Free to pick up other books that I would rather read!

So what am I currently reading? I’ve got  Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins and Broken Monsters (ARC) by Lauren Beukes on the go. I’m loving Lola, and I’ve just started Broken Monsters and have been really looking forward to this one since I picked it up at BEA.

On the blog, I posted reviews of Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater and The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. Four stars to both books!

Coming up this week are my reviews of Dissonance (ARC) by Erica O’Rourke and Bird Box by Josh Malerman. I really enjoyed both and I’ve been recommending Bird Box to anyone who will listen to me.

I’m going to curl up with Broken Monsters and some coffee on the couch, and then check out the baseball game this afternoon. Happy Sunday!
