Just One Reader's Opinion!

Week In Review

September 22 – 28

My book buying ban is still in effect! I was tempted a couple of times to buy something, but I resisted. Yay me!

I’m ridiculously excited for the Gone Girl movie to come out! My husband is taking me to see it next weekend and I can’t wait. I picked up my copy of the book on Friday, planning to skim the first couple of chapters, and I ended up rereading the entire book by Saturday morning. Even on a second read, I couldn’t put it down! I very very rarely reread books, and this one was just as good the second time around. Also, the ending has grown on my since I first read the book two years ago.

As for books acquired, I picked up The Brokenhearted by Amelia Kahaney and Complicit by Stephanie Kuehn from the library. I also received a surprise book from Simon & Schuster Canada: Owl and the Japanese Circus (ARC) by Kristi Charish. Thank you!

Along with my Gone Girl reread, I finished reading Dancer, Daughter, Traitor, Spy by Elizabeth Kiem, and an ARC of Mortal Gods (Goddess War #2) by Kendare Blake.

Currently, I’m reading:

The Secret History by Donna Tartt – it has taken me a while to really get into this, but I feel like I’m flying through it now (even though I’ve still got about another 350 pages to go!)

Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas – I’m very very slowly making my way through this one. I love this series but so far this third book hasn’t grabbed me.

I’m also debating putting these books aside and starting to read my ARC of In a Handful of Dust, by Mindy McGinnis. It’s a companion to Not a Drop to Drink, which I just loved. Or should I get going on one of my library books? I’m super excited to read Complicit, and it’s just over a couple hundred pages so if I get into it, I could probably read it in a day. Decisions, decisions.

On the blog, I posted reviews of:

Messenger of Fear, by Michael Grant;

Rooms, by Lauren Oliver;

HorrorstΓΆr, by Grady Hendrix; and

Anatomy of a Misfit, by Andrea Portes.

Coming up this week on the blog are my reviews of:

The Diamond Thief, by Sharon Gosling;

Sway, by Kat Spears;

Falling Into Place, by Amy Zhang (LOVED IT); and

The Lost Symbol, by Dan Brown.

Now to figure out what to read and, with the nice warm weather we’ve had this weekend, I’ll probably wind up reading out on the balcony. Happy reading!

  1. I’m super excited about the Gone Girl movie too and hope my apprehension aboiut Ben Affleck being miscast proves to be unwarranted. Can’t wait for your review of the film. You will be doing one, RIGHT!?!?

    I wound up enjoying this book so much that I immediately bought the rest of the books in the series and read them all one right after the other!
